DALLAS–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Trees are essential to our existence and do so much to improve our world. They purify our water, our air and improve our health, but are often taken for granted. Mary Kay, a global sustainability advocate, today announced her continued support of the Arbor Day Foundation’s reforestation work in China’s southern Liaoning province by planting 8,000 trees in 2022.
Through the collaborative efforts of Mary Kay and the Arbor Day Foundation, the pressing issues facing our planet are being addressed with lasting and measurable results. China is one of the countries in the world most affected by desertification. Since 2020, Mary Kay’s tree planting projects in areas of Gansu Province and western Liaoning Province have focused on removing carbon dioxide, improving quality and the quantity of water and the absorption of atmospheric pollutants.
In Minquin County, desertification accounts for almost 95% of the total land area. Similarly, the western part of Liaoning Province has suffered from a harsh climate, low rainfall and barren soil. The alarming loss of biodiversity in both regions cannot be ignored, but by slowing the rate of extinction and planting native species, the situation can be dramatically improved.
“Planting trees is a proven solution to many of the planet’s environmental problems,” said Wendy Wang, President of Mary Kay Asia Pacific. “By focusing our efforts on improving the natural habitat and biodiversity of these deforested areas, we are improving the environment as well as the economy. We invest in the future and raise awareness that trees are essential to the prosperity of our communities.
