Ree Drummond is shaking up traditional boring green beans with a recipe that she says makes “the best green beans ever.” The pioneer woman star adds a lot of flavor to her recipe, starting with cooking everything in bacon fat and ending with caramelized ingredients and perfectly cooked beans.

During an episode of The pioneer woman show, Drummond explained why she thinks she can brag about this vegetarian side dish. “I call them the best green beans ever because they start with a little bacon fat,” she explained.
“I have to get the cowboys to eat their veg somehow and having some bacon fat is always a good way to do that,” Drummond added.
She heated the bacon fat in a skillet, then added the onions, peppers, and garlic, stirring and cooking them until softened and golden.
“I happen to love green beans and can eat them pretty much raw,” she explained. “I’ll eat them any way I can get them.” I don’t mind that they are steamed with no seasonings at all. Cowboys, they are not that easy when it comes to vegetables.
Drummond added rinsed and trimmed fresh green beans to the pan, seasoned them with salt and pepper, then added the chicken broth. “Now all I have to do is put the lid on, simmer for 20 minutes, and they’ll be ready,” she explained.
“I love this dish. It’s really my favorite way to make green beans, ”Drummond said. “They totally disappear, no matter how much I earn.”
